Abstract

The genus Argiope (spiders) plays an important role in an ecosystem, namely as a natural enemy (predator) of insects, spiders themselves and other arthropods. This study aims to determine several species and the role of natural enemies of the genus Argiope in the adult stage of oil palm plantations. This study and research were conducted in an oil palm plantation area. Karapyak village, Cintamekar Serangpanjang, Subang, West Java. This research is an exploratory study carried out from September 2024 to mid-November 2024. Sampling was carried out using the letter '+' transect method with hand picking assisted by a fishing net. Identification was carried out in the laboratory of the Citra Widya Edukasi Politeknik Kelapa Sawit Campus, Cibuntu, Cibitung, Bekasi. The data is presented in the form of tables and plot design images in the field, as well as examples of sample species in the field. The diversity of species in the genus Argiope was analyzed using the Shannon-Wiener Index and evenness was calculated according to the Pielou formula, the role of natural enemies was determined based on the description of the behavior and type of mouth of the order Araneae. The results of the study obtained 39 individuals consisting of 7 types of species. The diversity index (H') of species in the genus Argiope in oil palm plantations was 0.95 which is classified as low. The evenness index (E') of species in the genus Argiope in mature oil palm plantations was 0.48 which is classified as depressed evenness.
