Abstract

Fulfillment of water or watering needs in initial oil palm nurseries is carried out periodically by farmers. There are several irrigation systems that can be used to fulfill the water needs of oil palm seedlings. This research aims to provide innovation in watering activities in early oil palm nurseries using automatic technology. The irrigation system created is an irrigation system that is able to read watering times and provide water according to needs. With an automatic irrigation system, farmers can save water, time and energy for carrying out watering activities. In carrying out the research, only one type of treatment was used, namely treatment of the automatic irrigation system. The research procedure was carried out by designing the concept and schematic of the framework to be made which was then assembled and installed on the research area. In the research, two systems were built, namely an irrigation system and an automatic system. After the irrigation system and automatic system are connected, the next step is data collection and observations which are carried out for 3 months. The observation parameters carried out were observation of tool performance, observation of plant morphology, observation of plant physiology, and observation of planting media. The results of the research show that the use of an automatic irrigation system to meet the initial needs of oil palm can be an alternative choice for farmers for watering initial oil palm seedlings. However, this automatic irrigation system still needs further research in the process of implementing the tool's performance in overcoming environmental factors.
